We’ve seen Nokia shifting its focus towards the Asian market for a while, with countries such as India being especially attractive. Today the company mentioned countries such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Vietnam as new markets with potential of massive growth. That said, Nokia’s three handsets unveiled at Communicasia today will be released in both Asia and Europe later this year.

Nokia E72

AT&T customers recently got a serious E series choice in the Nokia E71x, which is AT&T’s version of the popular E71 QWERTY smartphone. The latter is already close to one year old, and the Nokia E72 aims to take it all a step further.

The Nokia E72 offers several key upgrades, including a new optical navigation key for better scrolling, 5-megapixel camera, 3.5mm audio jack, Instant Messaging out-of-box (including GTalk) as well as faster Internet up- and downlink speeds. The Nokia E72 will also include A-GPS and compass with integrated Maps, active noise cancellation and a torch can be activated with a single press of the spacebar key.

Furthermore, the office capabilities have been updated with a new version of Quickoffice, which delivers Microsoft 2007 compatibility as well as free version upgrades when new features become available. Nokia’s new Messaging Suite, which includes Exchange support out-of-box will also be present. Price: EUR 350. Release: September 2009.

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic follows in the footsteps of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, expanding the touch XpressMusic range with a youthful device that has a stainless steel frame finish and comes in five colors. The phone is claimed to deliver up to 27 hours of music playback time, and a 4GB microSD memory card will be bundled in the sales package. Social media sites such as YouTube and Facebook can be accessed through the phone’s 2.9-inch widescreen display. The Nokia 5530 supports GSM/EDGE networks and also offers access to Internet services via Wi-Fi. Nokia is collaborating with Boingo and will offer three months of free Internet access in select markets. Price: EUR 200. Release: Q3 2009.

Nokia 3710 fold

The Nokia 3710 fold aims to attract style-conscious users, and especially so the feminine part of the world. Nokia hopes the phone will find its way to pockets and handbags in Q4 2009, which could make it a nice holiday present this year. Apart from its looks, the Nokia 3710 boasts a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS with Nokia Maps, and a microSD memory slot supporting up to 8GB cards. Price: EUR 140. Release: Q4 2009.
